Answers to your important questions

Find answers to the commonly asked questions about Clinical Hypnotherapy and Strategic Psychotherapy.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is considered a state of mind that involves focused attention and heightened awareness. Hypnosis occurs naturally; you could consider the act of reading a book, daydreaming, driving your car, watching a movie or other focused modes of attention to be considered a state of hypnosis. You naturally enter hypnotic states at various times throughout the day.

What is hypnotherapy?

While hypnosis is a state of mind, hypnotherapy uses hypnosis for therapeutic treatment. In this state, a qualified therapist will guide you into a trance-like state of relaxation. In this state, your therapist will make suggestions to you to enable you to make the change you desire on a deeper level.

Not all experiences of hypnotherapy are the same. At Quietly Successful, we practice modern hypnotherapy without scripts! We use in-direct, gentle suggestions based on the works of Milton Erickson, which is a conversational form of hypnosis that is personalised for you. This means no two sessions of therapy are the same!

How is hypnotherapy different from stage show hypnosis?

The form of hypnosis used on stage shows or in movies is very unlike the experience you will have when you experience hypnotherapy. Stage shows seek volunteers that are willing participants to be made fun of for entertainment purposes. During these shows, it may appear that participants are giving over all their control over to the hypnotist. This perception of hypnosis can be harmful and will be discussed in your first hypnotherapy session.

During a hypnotherapy session at Quietly Successful, there are no pocket watches, susceptibility tests, or handing your control over to the hypnotist. In fact, you remain in control of your experience at all times and you can simply choose to end a state of trance if ever you feel uncomfortable. Your therapist at Quietly Successful is bound by the Australian Hypnotherapist’s Association Code of Ethics, which establishes the guidelines for professional practice.

What happens to you in a state of hypnosis?

Your therapist will guide you into a state of trance, which allows your conscious and critical mind to enter a state of focused attention. You will still have your conscious awareness and remain in control at all times. During this state, we can access the incredible resources available to you at the subconscious level, allowing you to change negative habits and thinking processes.

What will I feel in a state of hypnosis?

Everyone has a slightly different experience of hypnosis. The majority of people notice themselves able to feel incredibly relaxed, a bit like experiencing a pleasant daydream.

What are the risks associated with being hypnotised?

Hypnotherapy is a harmless form of therapy, however, it is important to ensure that you find a qualified hypnotherapist.

How long does the hypnosis session last for?

While most consultations are between 60-90 minutes in length, the hypnosis component typically will last for 20 minutes. The hypnosis component is recorded for your benefit so that you can experience further insights between sessions.

How many sessions will I require to resolve my issue?

The majority of issues can be addressed within 3-4 sessions. You can sign up for a hypnotherapy bundle to save on the overall cost of your consultations.

Can I claim hypnotherapy on my private health insurance?

Some health fund providers allow you to claim for hypnotherapy. You will need to contact your provider to see if they support this.

What happens if hypnosis doesn’t work for me?

We offer a risk free service. It’s highly unlikely for our clients to receive no benefit at all from hypnotherapy and strategic psychotherapy. Subject to you following a complete treatment plan, if at the end of all your sessions you feel no change or benefit, your consultation fees will be refunded back to you.

Can I see you in person?

To avoid the unnecessary anxiety and stress of having to travel during COVID-19, consultations are available over Zoom only at this point in time. Sessions conducted over Zoom have been reported to be just as successful as an in-person visit and allows you to undertake hypnotherapy from the comfort of your own home. If there is sufficient interest in in-person consultations, this may change in the near future.
